Day 4 - Street Art

Today we decided to forgo the free breakfast in the Executive Lounge at the Hilton and meet Sam for a real brunch at a cafe where we could sit outside.  Turns out that a really great one was just a couple blocks up the street from where he was staying.  It's called A.Horn.  It's a little hidden right now due to the façade construction on the floors above.

It was a delicious brunch and we highly recommend this place!

Here's another Berlin Bear for you today:

This beautiful stonework is on the way to Sam's apartment:

As was this mural:

Since the weather was decent, we decided to head over to the East Side Gallery.  To get there, we crossed over the Obebambrücke, one of the most famous bridges in Berlin, and one of the most beautiful.

The East Side Gallery is the largest remaining section of the Berlin Wall.  After reunification, local artists were invited to paint a mural on a section of the wall.  Some of these murals were repainted in 2009.  Here is a sampling of some of them.  Little explanation is needed.

The back side of the wall was covered in graffiti, which was equally impressive (but in a different way).

On the way to dinner, we came across this spectacular place.

We had dinner at a local biergarten that had a HUGE display for watching football.

We stayed for most of the first game (Greece & Czech Republic), and then found another funky biergarten for the second game (Poland & Russia).  To get there, we crossed back over the Oberbambrücke and got to see the sun set Berlin-style!

At the funky biergarten, the crowd was clearly supporting Poland.  It was a little dark, but we had fun with the timer.
